tag style. i'll match whoever i'm tagging, but personally i tend to default to brackets
tag length. so long as you give me enough to work off of, i don't care how long your tags are or if you match my length when i get rambly!
backtagging. (YES.) VERY yes!! it's been a while since i've been in a game, but even when i'm doing PSL stuff, i tend to be on the slower side, so backtags are a big thing for me
threadjacking. (MAYBE.) if it's a serious thread, ask first. otherwise, assuming it's a public conversation, i'm down! communication beforehand is always appreciated tho!
fourth walling. (NO.) which isn't to say your characters can't be aware of the concept of magical girls in general; it's a pretty big genre! and even in puella canon, magical girl manga and anime exist. but please don't canon puncture specifically puella magi and kyoko
SENSITIVE SUBJECTS.
ooc. there isn't much in the way of IC content that bothers me!
canon. puella magi rightly deserves its reputation as being full of suffering. kyoko's canon deals with violence centered on children and teenagers, suicide, suicidal ideology, the manipulation of young girls, and violation metaphors (again, centered on young girls). kyoko's personal history deals with all of the above, as well as starvation, youth homelessness, suggested domestic abuse, and murder/suicide by fire and hanging. shit's heavy, yo, be warned
ic. kyoko will go from zero to FAITO!! over the waste of food, and she'll be dead serious about it. she can be kind of touchy about all that stuff listed in her history as described above, and she's likely to react by putting on a tough act, get defensive and thus aggressive, or speak meanly about these things (even when she doesn't actually mean what she says)
IC.
physical contact. (YES.) casual, affectionate contact isn't something she's used to, and she may respond with tension and/or hostility, depending on... a lot of factors, ranging from kyoko's moods to the state of the CR to yadda yadda. (but this isn't discouragement or a hard "no"!)
relationships. (YES.) kyoko is definitely tsundere, so developing close relationships of any kind can be difficult since she doesn't always say what she means and can range from casually rude to outright aggressive. but once she creates a bond with someone (even one-sided), she'll keep an eye on them and stick her nose into their business and generally make a nuisance of herself (not always in a bad way). unsurprisingly, negative CR is likely to be part and parcel with her, and i welcome it!
shipping. (MAYBE.) when it comes to romance, keep in mind that she's fifteen, so i'd prefer ships to be age-appropriate. kyoko hasn't put a lot of thought into things like her sexual or romantic preferences, but she has a LOT of very heavy wlw subtext in canon, and i see her as a lesbian who doesn't know she's a lesbian yet. she's spent all her time focused on surviving, after all, so any shipping will also include elements of 'awakening'/gay panic/self-discovery
violence. (YES.) kyoko likes to pick fights, and not just verbally. she's very comfortable with violence, even without the use of her magic. if push comes to shove comes to fistfight, i'm absolutely down for it. let's hash out the details! when it comes to injury, i'm cool within reason — serious injury should be discussed, though, and killing kyoko definitely requires prior discussion
appearance. kyoko stands at about 5'1" (156-158cm), and her eyes and hair are both red. she wears her hair long and kept up in a high ponytail tied with a black ribbon. she prefers to dress casually, and her canonical wardrobe has included hoodies, tank tops, shorts, short skirts, and sneakers, favoring a tomboyish style. whenever transformed into her magical girl form, she wears a sleeveless red dress, longer in the back than the front with white ruffles at the bottom edge, and underneath it a long black undershirt and a pink pleated skirt. her outfit includes thigh-high black socks, knee-high red and white boots, and long white sleeves with large black cuffs. just under her high collar is a narrow elliptical red gem. her weapon appears to be a long spear with a large red spearhead, but it can break down into sections connected by chain at her will. image references: [outfits] [magical girl] [weapon]
mental information. (MAYBE.) for thought-reading, i prefer OOC communication to discuss it first. emotion-reading is fair game, though kyoko's emotions can be fairly tumultuous, so hit me up for details when this is important. mentally, kyoko is very resilient for a fifteen-year-old girl, which has allowed her to survive the hardships of her life without succumbing to despair
magical information. (MAYBE.) depending on how magic sensing works for your character!
for morally-focused magic systems (light/dark, good/evil, etc.), kyoko will come across as solidly in the gray areas. for those who are especially good at sensing such things, kyoko's core nature is lighter than she acts or is typically willing to show, but she's embraced selfishness to enough of a degree that she's been willing to actively allow innocent, defenseless people to be preyed upon for the sake of her own survival, and she can be genuinely callous about it
for simply picking up whether or not she's magical, it's unlikely to happen if she's in her casual clothes and living normally. obviously, any time she uses magic, whether it be to transform into her magical girl form, or afterwards when she's using her magic to fight, there's no hiding it... but otherwise, she comes across as a normal, non-powered teenager. there can be exceptions, though, such as when she uses magic to enhance her physical abilities so she can do things like scale tall buildings like a typical powered anime character, or when she uses magic to heal her injuries
for soul-based magic systems, things get a little more... interesting. kyoko's soul has been removed from her body and instead inhabits a physical object called a "soul gem," which can change forms. it's true form resembles a fabrege egg ([image]), but when she isn't in her magical girl form, she can change it into an engraved silver ring at will ([image]), which also has an accompanying "stamp" on her fingernail. when she's in her magical girl form, her soul gem changes shape again, this time to the elliptical red gem sitting under her collar ([image])
another fun tidbit, but not currently relevant, is that kyoko originally was able to create illusions with her magic. however, she's mentally suppressed that power, so it's unlikely to come up until she comes to terms with her history
OPT OUTS.
ooc. if you need out on any specific topic, let me know here and i'll avoid those things in kyoko's narration, but if your character earns enough of her trust, she may want to tell them about her life. if it comes to that point, we can talk it out and figure out what to do. if you need me to curb back the level of kyoko's meanness, let me know and i'll figure out alternatives
if you'd rather not touch puella magi, kyoko, or me with a thirty nine and a half foot pole, this is also the place to let me know (please include what characters you're playing, too, so i don't accidentally mess up)
powers. there are only two things that should be relevant for permissions. the first is whether or not kyoko can sense your character's magic. in puella canon, magical girls can sense not only other magical girls and witches (their enemies), but other magical signatures, too. (magia record introduces a new type of enemy, and the magical girls can sense them as well.) by default, i'll assume that overt acts of magic are free game, but for subtler ones, i'll either assume that kyoko can't sense it, doesn't happen to sense it in that instance, or i'll come ask you! if you don't want kyoko to be able to sense any of your characters' magic, please let me know
the second is her telepathy -- magical girls are able to telepathically communicate not only with each other, but normal humans as well. it works like mental speaking, and they can choose to speak to more than one person or only one, but it doesn't cover anything deeper or more complex than that. if this comes up, i'll drop you a line and make sure it's okay, but if you'd rather kyoko never be able to use telepathy with your character (for ic or ooc reasons), let me know here!
also, if you have any questions about kyoko's magic, sensing it, and/or generally want to pow wow about worldbuilding and magic systems, feel free to hit me up!
